Find out what's working, what's not, and what to fix before you send your next query.
The Scorecard gives you an experienced writer's outside perspective on your query letter, so you can stop guessing and start revising strategically.
I'll look at your query letter as a complete package—not just whether the sentences are polished, but whether they're doing the job they need to do.
You'll receive a clear scorecard across the elements that matter most when you're trying to get an agent to request your manuscript:
Hook — Does your query immediately give an agent a reason to keep reading?
Character Arc — Are your protagonist and their desires clear, compelling, and specific?
Conflict — Is there enough tension and urgency to make the story feel impossible to resist?
Voice — Does the query sound like your book?
Market Positioning — Is it clear what kind of book you're selling and where it fits in today's market?
Word Count — Does the word count reflect a fully developed manuscript for the genre?
Comps — Are you comps compelling, accurate, and well rounded?
Stakes — Are you stakes clearly stated?
Writer Bio — Is your writer bio thoughtful, strategic, and reflective of your voice and background?
Length — Is the query letter length effective?
Each category receives a score, along with specific feedback explaining the reasoning behind it.
More Than a Score
The most useful part of the diagnosis isn't the number. It's knowing what to do about it.
I'll identify the biggest issue holding your query letter back and tell you what I'd change.
You might discover that your hook isn't specific enough. That your conflict arrives too late. That your query is selling the wrong aspect of your novel.
Whatever the issue, you'll leave with a clearer understanding of what needs attention and where to focus your revision time.
Is Your Query Ready?
The Query Letter Scorecard is ideal if:
- You've finished a novel and are preparing to query.
- You've started querying but aren't getting the response you hoped for.
- You're receiving few or no manuscript requests.
- You've revised your query repeatedly and aren't sure what else to change.
- You want professional feedback before investing in a full editing package.
Stop guessing. Start querying strategically.
This service does not include a Zoom call or include working through query letter revisions with the writer. Want hands-on help implementing the changes? The Query Sesh is the next step.
Please note: I work and write full-time so a very small number of querying and manuscript service spaces are opened each month and space is limited.
